May 23rd, Stateline Speedway
Friday - RaceCals Pro Late Models
All in all we had three races this past weekend. Typically the opening late model weekend at Findlay Stadium Stateline Speedway would have had the Pro Lates on Friday and the Supers on Saturday. Instead Fridays format was put up for vote to run twin 50s instead of the typical 75 lap race. Most of us voted for the twins. We'll start with the first 50 lapper.
Qualifying went well and we took the pole with a 14.02. As usual there was some good competition at Stateline.
HPR - 14.02
Nick Gibson - 14.037
John Newhouse - 14.15
Braeden Havens - 14.174
Jason O'Neil - 14.184
So we drew for the invert and pulled a 2.
Things started off as expected with Nick Gibson on our tail for a lot of the race. He was either close behind or even door to door. But we ran well, fended him off and eventually took the victory.
The second race didn't go quite as well. Once again we drew for the invert and once again pick a two.
But then struggled a little in the second 50 and was overtaken around halfway through. Still managed to hold on for 5th.
Overall the day was a success. We have such a great team and are glad to just be able to do what we do.
Saturday - Northwest Super Late Model Series
Saturday was hot. Friday was hot too but for some reason Saturday felt worse. Maybe it was the second day in it, but we were ready for the night to begin.
In qualifying we ended up with 2nd with a 13.379. We chose to run the prolate again given our experience with the track and the nature of it. In hindsight we may have chose to run the super but since we don't have a crystal ball we'll just leave it at that.
Things went well at first. We had a clear lead until after the competition yellow when Kasey took the lead after a bit. We took it back after another yellow around lap 51 but Kasey edged by again. Finally with three to go there was another caution. It was one heck of a battle, door to door for the full three laps and even some bumping but we lost by probably 3 inches.
Congratulations to Kasey Kleyn Racing! They ran a heck of a race.
